Botanical gummy guide: how to choose, serving and what to expect

Gummies are the easiest botanical format there is: a fixed, pre-measured serving of extract in a chewable base made without gelatin. This collection holds our plant-based gummies for kanna, blue lotus and kava, and the chews that sit alongside them. The extracts inside are the same lab-tested, small-batch extracts sold elsewhere on the store, so a 30mg kanna gummy carries exactly what its label says, and kanna is sourced through South African San Council benefit-sharing partnerships. There is no weighing, no bitter taste and nothing to prepare. If you would rather swallow than chew, our capsules hold the same extracts.

At a glance

  • Plant-based gummies and chews
  • For kanna, blue lotus and kava
  • A fixed, pre-measured serving of extract in a chewable base made without gelatin

The plants. Each gummy carries a single plant:

  • Kanna, Sceletium tortuosum, brings the mesembrine and mesembrenone alkaloids of the Karoo succulent
  • Blue lotus, Nymphaea caerulea, brings nuciferine and aporphine from the sacred water lily of ancient Egypt, and our blueberry gummies pair it with L-theanine and GABA
  • Kava, Piper methysticum, brings kavalactones from the Pacific root

A gummy is swallowed and digested, so it comes on more slowly than a spray or tincture and lasts longer, which many people prefer for a predictable afternoon or evening.

How to choose. Match the plant to the time of day:

Dosing overview. One gummy is one serving unless the package says otherwise, and the label lists the extract amount, for example 30mg of kanna extract per gummy. Chew thoroughly, take it with a little water, and wait a full hour to ninety minutes before considering a second, because gummies arrive slowly. Do not stack a gummy on top of a powder or spray of the same plant on the same day until you know both.

What to expect. Users describe the kanna gummy as a gradual, easygoing lift that settles in over an hour and lasts an afternoon, the blue lotus gummy as a soft, dreamy calm for the evening and the kava gummy as relaxed and body-focused without the numb mouth of a traditional shell. Gummies are gentle and steady rather than fast and sharp, which makes them the format most people hand to a curious friend.

Side effects and cautions. Because the serving is fixed, side effects mostly come from taking a second gummy too soon; mild nausea, headache or drowsiness are the signals to stop.

  • Kanna gummies must not be combined with SSRIs, SNRIs, MAOIs, triptans, tramadol or St. John's Wort
  • Kava and blue lotus gummies should not be combined with alcohol or sedative medications, and kava needs professional advice with any liver condition
  • Not for use if pregnant or nursing
  • Keep well out of reach of children because they look like candy, and adults 21 and over only

Common questions

  • How long does a kanna gummy take to kick in? Most people notice it in forty-five to ninety minutes, later than a spray, because it is digested first.
  • Are Healing Herbals gummies actually vegan? Yes, they are made on a pectin or plant-based base with no gelatin.
  • Can I take half a botanical gummy? Yes, cutting a gummy in half is the simplest way to try a smaller first serving.
