Kanna nasal spray guide: how it works, dosing and safety
This is our fastest kanna format and the supplies to build your own. The collection holds four listings: the finished RAVE high mesembrine kanna nasal spray, a DIY spray pack, empty nasal spray bottles and sterile saline. The finished spray is made in small batches from lab-tested standardized Sceletium tortuosum extract dissolved in a saline base, and the kanna behind it is sourced through South African San Council benefit-sharing partnerships. Nasal delivery skips digestion entirely, which is why this format is felt in minutes rather than the better part of an hour. Other liquid kanna formats sit under kanna tinctures and infusions, and empty bottles and saline are also listed under accessories and DIY supplies.

The plant. Kanna is a Karoo succulent of the Aizoaceae family, chewed and fermented by the San and Khoikhoi for generations and named after their word for the eland. Its alkaloids are mesembrine, the brighter and more uplifting one, mesembrenone and delta-7-mesembrenone, the calmer and more body-focused pair, and mesembranol. A nasal spray built on a high mesembrine extract leans firmly toward the bright, social side of the plant, and because the dose per spray is tiny and repeatable it is one of the easiest ways to learn your own response.
How to choose.
- If you want a finished product, the RAVE kanna extract nasal spray is the one to buy; it is the flagship of this format.
- If you already own a kanna powder and want to make your own, the Spray Pack DIY nasal spray kit bundles what you need, or buy the parts separately: two empty nasal spray bottles and saline solution.
- If you prefer the mouth, see the sublingual Kanna Extract Mouth Spray or the calmer MELT high mesembrenone spray.
Dosing overview. Follow the spray count on the product page, starting with a single spray in one nostril and waiting ten to fifteen minutes before considering another. Nasal delivery is easy to overshoot, so treat each spray as a full step. For DIY sprays, dissolve extract in saline at the ratio the kit describes, label the bottle with the strength, and start with one spray of your own mix exactly as you would with ours.
What to expect. Users describe a brisk, lifted, talkative feeling within five to ten minutes, peaking early and tapering over an hour or two, shorter than powders or tea. A mild sting or a bitter drip at the back of the throat is normal for the first few uses. This is a quick, social, daytime format, not a long slow evening one, and it works best as a single considered use rather than something you reach for repeatedly.
Side effects and cautions. Because absorption is fast, too much can bring nausea, headache or jitteriness sooner than other formats; the fix is one spray fewer next time, and it passes as kanna clears. Nasal irritation can occur with frequent use, so rest the nose between days.
- Never combine with SSRIs, SNRIs, MAOIs, triptans, tramadol or St. John's Wort
- Skip alcohol
- Do not use if pregnant, nursing or with a heart condition
- Keep bottles clean and clearly labeled

Common questions
- How quickly does a kanna nasal spray take effect? Most users feel the first spray within five to ten minutes, which makes it the quickest kanna format we sell.
- Can I make my own kanna nasal spray at home? Yes, the DIY spray pack or the empty bottles and saline let you dissolve a standardized extract at the ratio described on the kit page.
- Does a kanna nasal spray last as long as a powder? No, it comes on faster and fades sooner, usually within an hour or two.
