The herb. Amanita regalis is the brown-capped royal of the fly agaric group, a spruce-forest mushroom of Scandinavia, Finland, the Baltic states and eastern Europe, where it carries a long ethnobotanical and cultural significance and still surfaces in Scandinavian folklore. It shares its two defining compounds with the red A. muscaria and the panther cap: ibotenic acid, present in the fresh and freshly dried mushroom, and muscimol, which ibotenic acid becomes as it loses carbon dioxide under heat or slow drying. Regalis remains a subject of study in ethnomycology partly because its composition is reported to differ from its relatives, and a concentrated extract is the practical way to examine that difference.

Active content. No potency figure is stated for this resin and none should be assumed. What it holds is the whole soluble profile of the mushroom, at a concentration well above that of whole dried caps by weight, and because the dual extraction preserves rather than converts, the muscimol to ibotenic acid balance reflects the drying of the source caps rather than a deliberate decarboxylation step:
