Kanna Extract Juice (Refill Liquid)
Kanna Extract Juice (Refill Liquid) This is our flavored kanna extract liquid, a refill juice and tincture made from organically grown Sceletium tortuosum extract carried in vegetable glycerin with a measure of propylene glycol and natural flavors. There are no added fillers, no chemicals and no research chemicals in the bottle: kanna extract, the two food-grade carriers and flavor, nothing else. It comes in three flavors, Piña colada, Strawberry and Mango, chosen because fruit covers kanna's natural bitterness better than anything else we have tried. It works as a refill for an aromatherapy device and as a flavored sublingual liquid. Our kanna is grown through benefit-sharing partnerships with the South African San Council, the traditional custodians of Sceletium knowledge.

The herb. Kanna, Sceletium tortuosum, is a low, creeping succulent of the Aizoaceae family from the Karoo of South Africa. The San and Khoikhoi peoples chewed and fermented it for generations, and the name kanna is their word for the eland antelope. The plant carries a small family of alkaloids, mesembrine, mesembrenone, delta-7-mesembrenone and mesembranol, and its character in any product comes from how those alkaloids are balanced against each other.
Active content. The listing does not state an alkaloid percentage or a milligram-per-milliliter figure for this liquid, so we do not quote one; what it states is that the active compounds are kanna's own, mesembrine and mesembrenone among them, from organically grown plant. Mesembrine is the alkaloid people associate with a brighter mood, focus and energy, while mesembrenone leans calmer and more body-focused, and a whole-plant extract carries both. The glycerin makes the liquid smooth and slightly sweet, the propylene glycol keeps it flowing in a device, and the natural flavor does the rest.
Dosage, first time. The listing gives no serving, so start small. As a sublingual, place a few drops under the tongue, hold them briefly and swallow; onset is within the first half hour and builds from there. As a refill, fill your device according to its maker's instructions and take a single gentle puff, then set it down. In either case wait a full two hours before adding more so you are judging the complete effect rather than the first wave.
Regular use. Once you know your response, keep the number of drops or puffs per session steady rather than climbing. Kanna's feel shifts with food, rest and tolerance, and a consistent small serving gives more reliable results than a large one. If you switch between sublingual and refill use, remember they are two different routes and start low again with each.
What to expect. Users describe this flavored kanna liquid as an easygoing, uplifted focus with a relaxed undertone: present, clear-headed and sociable, with the edge taken off and a fruit finish that makes the ritual pleasant. It suits anyone who found plain kanna tinctures too bitter, people who use a refillable aromatherapy device, and anyone who wants a liquid kanna with a short ingredient list. It is not a standardized, measured extract. For an unflavored glycerin kanna liquid see our Kanna aromatherapy refill Juice, and for volume pricing see the Kanna Bulk Tincture and Aromatherapy Refill.
Side effects. Kanna's side effects follow the dose. Too much in a sitting can bring mild nausea, a headache, a jittery feeling or a smaller appetite; cut the next serving back or skip it, drink water and let it pass as the kanna clears. Propylene glycol can leave a dry mouth in some people, so keep water nearby, and stop use if the liquid irritates your mouth or throat.
