The herb. Kanna is Sceletium tortuosum, a low succulent of the Aizoaceae family from the Karoo, the dry heart of South Africa. The San and Khoikhoi peoples chewed and fermented it for generations, and its name comes from their word for the eland antelope. The leaf carries a related set of alkaloids, mesembrine, mesembrenone, delta-7-mesembrenone and mesembranol, and a full-spectrum glycerin extraction pulls all of them into the liquid in roughly the balance the plant grew them.
