What's in it. Sodium chloride at 0.9% and purified water, nothing else. That concentration is what makes it isotonic: a spray or rinse at 0.9% feels neutral on the nasal lining, while plain water stings and stronger salt solutions dry. There are no preservatives, fragrances or buffers added, which is exactly why it works as a clean carrier for whatever you mix into it.

How to use. For a homemade nasal spray, the saline is the bulk of the bottle. Dissolve your chosen extract in a small amount of saline first, then top up with the rest, cap and shake until clear. Because the solution is sterile, work quickly with clean hands and pour only what you need; do not return unused liquid to the container.

Filling and mixing. Fill spray bottles with a small funnel or a clean syringe to avoid spills, leaving a little headspace so the pump primes properly. Powders that resist dissolving can be helped along with gentle warmth from your hands and a longer shake. If you use citric acid to balance a formula, add it a pinch at a time and swirl before adding more.

Cleaning and handling. Rinse funnels, syringes and bottles with hot water before use and let them air dry upside down. Once the seal is broken, consider the saline clean rather than sterile: cap it immediately after pouring and use it within a reasonable time. Never share a spray bottle between people, and discard any solution that turns cloudy or develops an odor.
