Kanna Extract Nasal Spray (High Mesembrine) [RAVE]

Kanna Extract Nasal Spray (High Mesembrine) [RAVE] is a fine intranasal mist of standardized high-mesembrine Sceletium tortuosum extract in a purified saline base. It is the fastest format we make, because the nasal lining takes the alkaloids up directly instead of sending them through digestion. Every batch is made in-house in small runs by Healing Herbals, built on our MZQ (GLOW) kanna extract, and lab-checked for alkaloid content. Our kanna is grown through benefit-sharing partnerships with the South African San Council, the traditional custodians of Sceletium knowledge.

At a glance

• Built on MZQ kanna extract, standardized to 5.5% total alkaloids
• Mesembrine-dominant profile, the bright and social side of kanna
• Four strengths: Regular, Double, Triple and Quadruple
• Approximately 125 sprays per bottle
• Onset within minutes, no mixing and no measuring
• Adults 21 and over

The plant

Kanna, Sceletium tortuosum, is a low-growing succulent from the Karoo region of South Africa. The San and Khoikhoi peoples chewed and fermented it for generations, on long journeys and at gatherings, and the name kanna comes from their word for the eland antelope, an animal they held sacred. The plant carries a small family of alkaloids, and the balance between them is what gives each extract its character.

Alkaloid profile

This spray is built on MZQ, standardized to 5.5% total alkaloids with mesembrine in front. What each alkaloid brings:

• Mesembrine: the bright, lifted, sociable side, and the reason RAVE reads as clear rather than heavy
• Mesembrenone and delta-7-mesembrenone: the calmer, more body-focused side, present but not leading here
• Mesembranol: a minor alkaloid that rounds out the profile

Strengths

Each bottle holds a measured amount of extract and gives approximately 125 sprays:

• Regular Strength: about 500 mg of extract per bottle, roughly 4 mg per spray
• Double Strength: about 1000 mg per bottle, roughly 8 mg per spray
• Triple Strength: about 1500 mg per bottle, roughly 12 mg per spray
• Quadruple Strength: about 2000 mg per bottle, roughly 16 mg per spray, for seasoned kanna users only

How to use

Shake gently and start with a single spray, then wait. Onset is usually within minutes and builds over the next half hour. Wait up to two hours before adding a second spray so you are judging the full effect rather than the first wave. New users should start with Regular Strength, and if you are new to kanna altogether, one spray of Regular is plenty for a first session. Expect a mild sting or tingle in the nose and a slightly bitter drip at the back of the throat. That is normal for kanna and it passes quickly.

Regular use

Most people settle at one to two sprays per session. Experienced users who know their response often move up to Double or Triple for a stronger, faster lift. How kanna lands on a given day depends on tolerance, food and rest, so keep the serving where it works for you rather than escalating. Tolerance builds with daily use, and a short break restores your response better than extra sprays.

What to expect

People reach for the nasal spray when they want a quick, uplifted, social calm with no prep. Users describe a lift within minutes, an easy social warmth and sharper focus, without feeling foggy. It suits a busy morning, a night out, or a pre-workout window. It is not a heavy or sedating format. For that side of kanna, see our MELT high-mesembrenone spray, and for the same profile as a powder, see GLOW MZQ.

Side effects

These are almost always a matter of serving size. Too much can bring a queasy stomach, a headache, a jittery or over-alert feeling, and a dip in appetite. Reduce your next serving or skip the second spray and these fade as the kanna clears. Spraying into a dry, irritated nose stings more than usual, so space your sprays. Stop use if discomfort continues.
