At a glance

• 2 oz bottle with glass dropper
• 14 grams of organically grown kanna steeped into every bottle
• Vegetable glycerin base, no alcohol
• Two ingredients, nothing else added
• 3 to 9 droppers is roughly 0.7 g to 2.1 g of kanna
• Adults 21 and over

Reading the strength. Rather than a ratio you have to interpret, this label states the plant weight: 14 grams of kanna in each 2 oz bottle, and every dropper works out to roughly a quarter gram of plant material. If you already know how much loose leaf you brew, that number tells you where to start.

Full spectrum, not standardized. This is made from whole kanna rather than from a single standardized extract, so it carries the plant's whole alkaloid range: mesembrine for the bright and sociable side, mesembrenone and delta-7-mesembrenone for the calmer side, and the minor alkaloids alongside them. That makes it rounder and less pointed than a tincture built on one isolated profile.

Why glycerin rather than alcohol. A glycerite is naturally sweet, sits comfortably under the tongue and suits anyone avoiding alcohol. The trade-off is thickness. Cold glycerin fills a dropper slowly, so warm the bottle in your hand for a minute first.

Use methods.

• Under the tongue: the route this was built for. Hold it there for thirty to sixty seconds before swallowing.
• In a beverage: stir into water, tea or juice. Slower and smoother.
• In a warm drink: glycerin disperses readily in heat and blends cleanly.

Interactions and cautions.

• Do not combine with SSRIs, SNRIs, MAOIs or other serotonergic medications, including triptans, tramadol and St. John's Wort, because of the risk of serotonin syndrome
• Do not use with alcohol
• Not for use during pregnancy or nursing, or by anyone with a heart condition
• For adults 21 and over; keep out of reach of children

Storage. Upright, capped, cool and dark. Glycerites keep for a long time without refrigeration. Cold thickens them, so let a chilled bottle warm before measuring.

The rest of the kanna tincture line. For an alcohol base there is the kanna alcohol tincture, and for a small high-potency bottle there is the 10ml liquid extract tincture. Blended versions are the kanna and blue lotus tincture and the kanna, blue lotus and kava tincture. Everything is in Kanna Tincture & Infusions.

Common questions

• How much kanna is in a bottle? 14 grams of organically grown kanna per 2 oz bottle.
• How many droppers should I start with? The label suggests 3 to 9. Start at 3 and wait at least an hour before adjusting.
• Why is it slow out of the dropper? Vegetable glycerin is thick. Warm the bottle in your hand and it runs normally.
• Is it bitter? Much less than a plain extract. Glycerin is naturally sweet and covers most of it.
• Full spectrum or standardized? Full spectrum. It carries the plant's whole alkaloid range rather than one isolated profile.
