Kava extract Juice (Refill Liquid)

Sale price$59.99

Flavor:

Kava extract Juice (Refill Liquid) is the refill liquid for our kava aromatherapy diffusers: a CO2-extracted, high-kavalactone kava paste dissolved into vegetable glycerin with a measure of propylene glycol and natural flavorings, and nothing else. There are no added fillers, no chemicals and no research chemicals. The kava itself is premium Piper methysticum root harvested on small farms across Fiji, and the liquid is third-party tested for authenticity and purity. It is meant for refilling a compatible personal aromatherapy device that gently warms the liquid into an aromatic mist with a strong body of scent.

At a glance

  • Refill liquid for kava aromatherapy diffusers, from a CO2-extracted, high-kavalactone kava paste
  • Vegetable glycerin with a measure of propylene glycol and natural flavorings, nothing else
  • Premium Fijian kava root, third-party tested for authenticity and purity
  • No kavalactone percentage printed
  • A quick, light, mellow ease with a tropical aroma
  • Three flavors: Piña colada, Strawberry and Pineapple

The herb. Kava, Piper methysticum, is a shrub in the pepper family from the Pacific Islands, cultivated in Vanuatu, Fiji and Tonga for more than three thousand years. Its root has held deep ceremonial and cultural significance as the centerpiece of social gatherings and traditional rituals, pounded and worked in water and shared at day's end. Noble cultivars are the ones islanders chose over generations for daily drinking. Each cultivar carries a chemotype, its own ratio of kavalactones, and that ratio is what makes one kava heady and another heavy; a CO2 extraction pulls those kavalactones out of the root and concentrates them into a paste.

Active content. We do not print a kavalactone percentage for this liquid; the source is a high-kavalactone CO2 paste, diluted into the carrier so it can be diffused, and the third-party test is the reference. Kava's six main kavalactones are kavain, dihydrokavain, methysticin, dihydromethysticin, yangonin and desmethoxyyangonin:

  • Kavain: the heady, uplifting, quick one
  • Dihydrokavain and dihydromethysticin: the heavy, body-focused pair
  • The rest: fill in the middle

In an aromatherapy format the amount reaching you per draw is small, so the character stays at the light end of the plant.

Dosage, first time. Fill your device according to its instructions and let the wick saturate before use. Inhale slowly through your mouth and exhale through your nose. Start with a few gentle puffs to learn your personal tolerance before taking more. Use it away from meals, as with any kava format. The numb tingle on the lips and tongue shows up quickly and is the sign the kava is real; give it a good stretch of time before deciding whether you want more.

Regular use. People who know their response keep to short sessions of a few puffs rather than continuous use, which also keeps the flavor pleasant and the device from running hot. Kava's reverse tolerance applies here too: early sessions may feel faint, and the response tends to settle in over time, so do not chase it.

What to expect. Users describe a quick, light, mellow ease, a small pause in the day with a pleasant tropical aroma, more a mood than a heavy body feeling. It suits a break outdoors, the walk home or a wind-down without a drink in hand. It is not a strong or long-lasting kava format and it is not a replacement for a bowl of root. It is the refill for the Kava 0.5ml Screw On Aromatherapy diffuser, and if you would rather skip refilling, the Kava Aromatherapy disposable is the same liquid in a single-use device.

Side effects. A numb mouth and a tingle on the lips are expected. Too many puffs in a row can bring lightheadedness, mild nausea or drowsiness; stop and it passes within a short while. Glycerin vapor can leave the throat dry, so drink water. Long-term heavy daily use of any kava product can dry the skin, which resolves on stopping.
