Why noble kava matters. Noble kava means a cultivar with a long record of daily traditional use across the Pacific Islands, as opposed to tudei and wild varieties which are cheaper, harsher and not what anyone in Vanuatu or Fiji would serve from a bowl. Products that do not say which they use are usually not using noble. This one does.

The root behind it. Kava, Piper methysticum, is a Pacific Island shrub whose root has been ground, kneaded in water and shared socially for centuries across Vanuatu, Fiji, Tonga, Samoa and Hawaii. The bowl takes ten minutes and a strainer bag. A diffuser takes none of that, which is the whole reason this format exists.

Ingredients.

How to use it. Puff gently through the mouth and exhale through the nose. This device is not intended for deep inhaling, and it does not need it: the mouth-to-nose route is where the aroma actually registers. Slow, light draws work better than hard ones, which flood the coil and give a harsh puff without more effect. Start with a few and wait a minute before deciding whether you want more.

Care and storage. Store upright at room temperature, out of direct sunlight and out of a hot car. Cold thickens the liquid and makes the first draw stubborn, so let it warm in your hand before use.

• Should I inhale deeply? No. This device is not intended for deep inhaling. Puff into the mouth and exhale through the nose.
• What does noble kava mean? A cultivar with a long record of daily traditional use, as opposed to tudei and wild varieties. This uses noble only.
• Is it refillable? This one is self-contained. The screw-on top and refill juice are the refillable option.
• Why is the first draw weak? Cold glycerin is slow. Warm the device in your hand for a minute first.
• Does it taste like a kava bowl? No. There is no root, no fibre and no earth to it. The aroma is kava, the texture is not.
