Size:

Milled / Powderized Kanna Leaf (Field Grown) is whole kanna leaf and nothing else, field grown Sceletium tortuosum milled into a fine powder. Every lot is lab-tested for purity and potency, and it is offered from a 7g trial through 14g, 1 oz, 2 oz, 4 oz, 8 oz, a pound, a kilo, 2 kilos, 5 kilos and 10 kilos. Our kanna is grown through benefit-sharing partnerships with the South African San Council.

At a glance

  • 100% field grown Sceletium tortuosum leaf, milled fine, not an extract or blend
  • Lab-tested for purity and potency on each batch
  • First serving 50 mg, about 1/10 of a teaspoon
  • Working range 100 to 200 mg per dose
  • Sizes from a 7g trial up to 10 kilos

The herb. Sceletium tortuosum is a low succulent in the Aizoaceae family, native to the Karoo of South Africa and long used by the San and Khoikhoi peoples. It is unrefined leaf at natural strength.

What's in it. The listing states no alkaloid percentage, so we do not quote one; it is 100% Sceletium tortuosum leaf, milled, with potency confirmed by lab testing. Fine powder steeps faster than tea cut.

Dosage and use. Start with 50 mg, roughly 1/10 of a teaspoon. Wait two hours before more, since kanna builds gradually. The working range is 100 to 200 mg per dose; do not exceed 200 mg. You can take it several ways:

  • Sublingual: hold under the tongue for the fastest onset
  • French press: comes on soonest alongside sublingual
  • Capsule: slower, it must dissolve first

What to expect. An easygoing, grounded lift, softer and slower than an extract. For more strength from leaf, see our High Potency Kanna Leaf 4% Active Alkaloids, and for a coarser cut for steeping, our Fermented Kanna Loose Leaf Tea Cut.

Side effects. Because this is unconcentrated leaf, side effects are uncommon at the stated servings. Overuse may cause mild nausea, a headache or jitteriness. Reduce or skip the next serving and drink water.

Interactions and cautions.

  • Do not combine kanna with SSRIs, SNRIs, MAOIs or other serotonergic medications, including triptans, tramadol and St. John's Wort, because of the risk of serotonin syndrome
  • Do not use with alcohol
  • Not for use if pregnant or nursing, or with a heart condition
  • Follow the recommended servings and check your local laws; adults 21+ only

Ingredients and storage. 100% Sceletium tortuosum (Milled Kanna Powder). Keep the bag sealed in a cool, dry, dark cupboard; fine powder pulls moisture from the air and clumps if left open.

Common questions

  • How much milled kanna leaf powder do I take the first time? Start with 50 mg, about 1/10 teaspoon, and wait two hours before more.
  • Can I make tea with milled kanna powder? Yes, a French press works well because the fine powder settles under the plunger.
