Botanical vape guide: how they are made, how to choose and use
These are our botanical aromatherapy diffusers, 15 listings of disposables, half gram screw-on cartridges and refill liquids built on kanna, blue lotus and kava extracts. They contain no nicotine, no cannabinoids and no tobacco; the liquid is a botanical extract carried in a diffuser base and made in small batches from the same lab-tested extracts used across the store. Kanna in these is sourced through South African San Council benefit-sharing partnerships. This is the quickest and most portable way to meet these plants, and also the lightest per use. The pens alone are grouped on our herbal vape pens page, and 510 batteries sit under accessories.

The plants. Each plant carries its own chemistry:
- Kanna, Sceletium tortuosum, is the Karoo succulent with mesembrine and mesembrenone alkaloids
- Blue lotus, Nymphaea caerulea, the Nile water lily of ancient Egypt, carries nuciferine and aporphine
- Kava, Piper methysticum, the Pacific root, carries kavalactones
Inhaled botanical vapor reaches you through the lungs, which is why a diffuser is felt within a minute or two and fades within the hour, in contrast to a tea or capsule that takes an hour to arrive and lasts several.
How to choose. Pick a format:
Dosing overview. There is no weighed serving with a diffuser; the unit is the draw. Take one short draw, wait a few minutes, and only then take another, following any guidance on the product page. Because the effect is brief, the temptation is to keep going; a handful of draws in a session is the norm, and the device will last far longer if you treat it that way. Never mix diffusers with other formats until you know each.
What to expect. Users describe the kanna diffuser as a quick, light lift, the blue lotus diffuser as a soft floral calm and the kava diffuser as a brief mellow with a faint tingle on the lips. Everything here is short and gentle by design: it is a between-moments format, not a full session, and the flavor is the plant itself rather than a candy profile. A slight throat tickle on the first draw is normal.
Side effects and cautions. Inhaled vapor can irritate the throat, and too many draws in a row can bring lightheadedness or mild nausea; stop and drink water.
- Kanna diffusers must not be used alongside SSRIs, SNRIs, MAOIs, triptans, tramadol or St. John's Wort
- Kava and lotus diffusers should not be combined with alcohol or sedative medications
- Not for use if pregnant or nursing, not for anyone with a respiratory condition
- Keep away from children and pets, and adults 21 and over only
