Vegetable Glycerin USP (Food Grade, for Tinctures & Glycerites)
Vegetable Glycerin USP is the food-grade, plant-derived glycerin we use as the base for our alcohol-free tinctures and as the carrier in our aromatherapy liquids. Clear, thick, slightly sweet, and it pulls water-soluble plant compounds well, which makes it the go-to base for a glycerite when you want to skip alcohol.
At a glance
- USP / food grade, 99.7%+ pure, plant derived (palm or soy based)
- Kosher, vegan, no additives
- Base for alcohol-free tinctures and glycerites
- Carrier for aromatherapy and diffuser liquids, usually blended with propylene glycol
- 16 oz, 32 oz and 1 gallon
Basic glycerite method. Fill a jar about a third with dried herb, cover with a mix of roughly 3 parts glycerin to 1 part distilled water, cap it, shake it daily and keep it out of light for 4 to 6 weeks, then strain through a fine bag into a dropper bottle. Fresh herb needs less water, dried herb needs the full amount.
Common questions
- Is this the same glycerin used in your kanna and lotus tinctures? Yes, same grade.
- Does it need refrigeration? No. Keep it capped at room temperature out of direct sun. It thickens when cold and thins when warm, that is normal.
