Isopropyl Alcohol 99% USP is the anhydrous cleaning alcohol we keep at the fill bench. It cuts sticky resin off jars, scoops, grinders and 510 threads in seconds and flashes off with no residue, which 70% rubbing alcohol from the drugstore does not do. USP grade means it is purified to pharmacopeia standard with no denaturants or additives. Sold in small bottles because most people only need a few ounces a month.

What it is. Anhydrous means it contains almost no water, which is why it dissolves resin so quickly and dries so fast. It is repacked from bulk gallons into sealed bottles. It is not the cheaper technical or industrial grade, which can carry oils and denaturants that leave a film.

How to use it. A capful on a cotton pad for 510 battery threads and cartridge mouthpieces. A soak in a sealed jar for a gummed-up grinder, then a rinse and a full dry. A quick wipe on a scale pan between extracts so the last powder does not throw the next reading. Let everything dry completely before it touches herb or food again.

Goes with. Black nitrile gloves hold up to it far better than latex, and 2 oz glass jars make good soak jars. The rest of the bench gear is in Accessories and DIY Supplies.

Not for. Do not drink it, do not use it in a tincture or extract, and do not use it on anything that goes in your mouth without a full rinse and dry. Keep it away from heat and flame.

Common questions

• Why 99% and not 70%? 70% is nearly a third water. It smears resin around and takes minutes to dry. 99% dissolves resin and is gone in seconds.
• Why ground shipping only? It is a flammable liquid. Carriers only accept it by ground in small consumer quantities, so we cannot ship it by air or outside the United States.
