Amanita Muscaria Caps and Extract (Fly Agaric)

Dried Amanita Muscaria caps and extract (fly agaric) are what this collection is built around: whole dried caps graded A and B, dense closed caps, a 15:1 high muscimol extract made in our own New York lab, a decarboxylated tincture, a muscimol isolate, and the close relatives Amanita pantherina and Amanita regalis. Healing Herbals has carried amanita since 2021 and it is one of the lines we produce in house rather than relabel. Each batch is HPLC tested for muscimol and ibotenic acid. What we carry.

• Caps by grade. A-grade caps are whole opened caps with the structure intact. Closed caps are young buttons picked before the veil breaks, the densest form we sell. B-grade caps are broken pieces at a lower price, fine for tea.
• 15:1 extract. The 15:1 high muscimol extract is a dual water and alcohol extraction, fifteen parts dried mushroom to one part finished material, measured by the fraction of a gram. The partially decarboxylated extract keeps some ibotenic acid on purpose, and the 2oz tincture is the easiest to measure by the dropper.
• Pantherina. Amanita pantherina caps, the brown panther cap, generally reported as stronger per gram than muscaria, plus its extract.
• Muscimol isolate. The muscimol isolate is the single compound on its own with no ibotenic acid, sold in quarter and half gram jars.

How we test. Every batch goes to HPLC before it is listed, and the two numbers we care about are muscimol and ibotenic acid. Caps vary from mushroom to mushroom, so testing tells us which lots are worth grading up and which go to B-grade. For the extracts and tincture it confirms the conversion ratio so a serving repeats from jar to jar. We do not print the name of our foraging supplier on the site or the label. The plant. Amanita muscaria, the fly agaric, is the red-and-white mushroom of northern birch and pine forests, with the brown-capped A. pantherina and the liver-brown A. regalis as close relatives. Siberian and northern European folk traditions, including the Koryak and Sámi, dried the caps before use. Fresh caps are not a product and should never be eaten.

Decarb note. The fresh mushroom holds mostly ibotenic acid. Drying converts part of it to muscimol, and heat or an acidic simmer finishes the job. That conversion is the whole art of preparing amanita, and we walk through the methods here. Dried caps arrive only partly converted. The 15:1 extract, the tincture and the isolate arrive already converted, which is why people who want repeatability pick them over caps.

Legality. Amanita muscaria and muscimol are not federally scheduled in the United States. A few states restrict the mushroom or its compounds, Louisiana being the clearest example, and we do not ship amanita there. Laws change, so check your state and local rules before ordering. Sold to adults 21 and over only.

How to choose.

• Caps if you want the whole mushroom and control over your own preparation, or you are building a collection.
• Extract if you want the mushroom's full profile already converted and concentrated, measured in small amounts.
• Isolate if you want one known compound, the same every time, and you already own a milligram scale. Not a beginner product.
• Pantherina or regalis if you are comparing species. Pantherina runs stronger, regalis gentler.

Dosing overview. Amanita is strongly dose-dependent and every product page carries its own serving; begin at the lowest amount listed and wait a full two to three hours, because onset is slow and creeping. Take it on an empty stomach as the product page advises, never combine products, and never eat raw or unprepared caps.

What to expect. Users describe prepared amanita as a heavy, dreamy, body-focused calm that arrives slowly, often with vivid dreams if taken later in the day. This is an unhurried evening or ceremonial botanical, not something to use casually or before any task that needs attention.

Side effects and cautions. Nausea, sweating, salivation and drowsiness are the common signs of too much, along with restless or vivid dreams, and all of them scale with dose; reduce sharply if they appear.

Common questions

• Is Amanita muscaria legal to order in the US? It is not federally scheduled. A few states restrict it, Louisiana among them, and we do not ship there. Check your own state before ordering.
• Are dried Amanita muscaria caps decarboxylated when they arrive? Only partly. Drying converts some ibotenic acid to muscimol. Buyers who want full conversion simmer the caps as the product page describes, or choose the extract, tincture or isolate.
• What does HPLC testing actually check? Muscimol and ibotenic acid content per batch, so caps can be graded and the extracts can be held to a stated ratio.
• Caps, 15:1 extract or muscimol isolate, which should a first-time buyer pick? Caps or the tincture. The extract is concentrated and the isolate is a single compound that needs a milligram scale; neither is a starting point.
