The plants. Kanna, Sceletium tortuosum, is a succulent native to southern Africa that contains the alkaloids mesembrine, mesembrenone and mesembrenol. Blue lotus, Nymphaea caerulea, is a water lily native to the Nile Valley and East Africa that contains aporphine and nuciferine. Kava, Piper methysticum, is a Pacific Islander crop plant standardized for its six major kavalactones: kavain, dihydrokavain, methysticin, dihydromethysticin, yangonin and desmethoxyyangonin. Amanita muscaria is a mushroom found across the northern hemisphere and contains muscimol, ibotenic acid and muscarine. We also carry supporting botanicals and mushrooms including ashwagandha, rhodiola, lion's mane, reishi, maca, cordyceps and ginseng.

How to choose.

• Pick the plant, then the format that fits your routine. Weighed powders give the most control: BLOOM MT5 5% total alkaloid kanna is the balanced kanna entry point, and the water soluble kava extract at 5% kavalactones stirs into a drink.
• Profile-specific extracts include the high nuciferine blue lotus extract and the Amanita pantherina extract.
• On the mushroom side, Reishi Mushroom Extract and Cordycep Extract Powder are the staples.
• Adaptogens are here too: Rhodiola Extract as a powder and Ashwagandha KSM 66 capsules, 30ct for people who want no measuring at all.

Dosing overview. Every extract has its own serving printed on its page and there is no universal number. As a rule, the more concentrated the ratio, the smaller the serving: a 100:1 powder is measured in tiny weighed amounts, a 10:1 in larger ones, and capsules are pre-measured. Start with the lowest listed serving, take it on its own, and wait an hour or more, longer for amanita, before deciding on more.

What to expect. Ethnobotanical extracts are noticeable within the hour: kanna described as lifted, kava as relaxed and tingly, blue lotus as dreamy, amanita as heavy and slow. Mushroom and adaptogen extracts are used daily for weeks and judged over time rather than in the moment. Expect strong, bitter or earthy flavors from anything unflavored.

Side effects and cautions. Too much of any concentrate brings nausea, headache or drowsiness, so reduce.

• Kanna is incompatible with SSRIs, SNRIs, MAOIs, triptans, tramadol and St. John's Wort
• Kava should not be combined with alcohol or sedative medications and needs professional advice with any liver condition
• Amanita must never be combined with alcohol, sedatives or medications
• Reishi and cordyceps call for a professional's advice if you take blood-thinning medication or face surgery, and mushroom allergy is possible
• Not for use if pregnant or nursing; the ethnobotanicals are for adults 21 and over

Common questions

• How should botanical extract powders and resins be stored? Keep them sealed, cool, dry and out of light; resins soften in warmth, so a cool cupboard rather than a sunny shelf is ideal.
• Are functional mushroom extracts taken the same way as kanna or kava extracts? No, mushroom extracts are usually taken daily in food or drink over weeks, whereas kanna and kava are taken as a single considered serving.
• Do botanical extract certificates of analysis show heavy metals? Yes, each batch is third-party tested for heavy metals, microbial safety and cannabinoid absence, and the certificate is available on request.
